2025 marked a defining chapter for Hands of Esperanza.
After more than 11 years of volunteer-led medical missions, grassroots fundraising, and community partnership, we reached a milestone that transforms how healthcare is delivered in rural Alta Verapaz, Guatemala.
On February 21, 2026, Hands of Esperanza will open the doors of its permanent medical and surgical clinic, enabling year-round, continuous care for communities that have long relied on episodic mission trips.
This post highlights key takeaways from our 2025 Impact & Financial Transparency Report.

Why This Matters
In rural Alta Verapaz, access to healthcare is not guaranteed.
Many patients still travel hours by foot to reach care. In 2025, Hands of Esperanza clinicians treated infections that would otherwise become life-threatening, managed chronic illnesses without interruption, and provided prenatal and pediatric care to families with no alternatives.
These mission trips save lives — but they are not enough on their own.
A permanent clinic changes everything.
2025 Impact Highlights
Healthcare Delivery
Volunteer clinicians provided critical medical care in remote villages
Chronic conditions were managed consistently rather than episodically
Prenatal and pediatric care reached families with no local options
Community Health Initiatives
12 smokeless stoves installed, reducing indoor air pollution and respiratory illness
12 household water filtration systems delivered, helping prevent waterborne disease
Financial Stewardship
$14,930.74 raised in 2025
Over 93% of every dollar donated directly supported programs, clinic construction, and in-country operations
Administrative costs limited to essential compliance, payment processing, and technology
Full financial breakdowns are available in the downloadable report
The Medical & Surgical Clinic: Opening February 2026
The new clinic allows Hands of Esperanza to move beyond short-term relief toward sustainable healthcare delivery.
With rotating teams of physicians, PAs, surgeons, dentists, nurses, and support staff, the clinic will:
Provide consistent primary care
Expand access to surgical services
Address complex conditions that cannot be treated during brief mission trips
This facility ensures that access to care no longer depends on timing, geography, or income.
What’s Next in 2026
Opening the clinic is a major milestone — not the finish line.
Our next priorities include:
Completion of the second floor to meet growing patient demand
Expanded surgical capacity to serve more complex cases safely
These investments will determine how many patients we can serve not just in year one, but for generations.
